what has president obama done that's so terrible? what anti-gun laws has president obama passed? precisely none, zero. president obama's actual record on guns as president is that you can now carry guns on amtrak trains and national parks. and that's the guy who did not get the endorsement of the nra. this guy did. >> i don't line up 100% with the nra. >> the nra is not looking to honestly compare the two candidate's records on their one and only issue of gun rights. the nra just wants the republican. that's what they want. that's why they exist. they are a republican-interest group and describe them any other way is to play into their spin. the idea of how to sans their own interests is to get a republican elected to office. whatever you think about them in terms of its effectiveness, frankly, that stinks for people who really do care about gun policy because they have the worst supposed advocates ever. >>> the interview tonight responding to mitt romney's foreign policy speech, the interview is the highest ranking woman in the history of the pentagon. very excited for this inte

obama is a 70% favorite. but my site had obama as an 85% favorite before the debate. means romney has gone double. people maybe read a little too much into the national polls. but even in the cases where obama was ahead by 7 points in the state before, that lead has been cut to 3 or 4. maybe you have a tie now. or romney ahead. there's a sign that obama's problems were worse just after the debate on thursday and friday and it's perking back up. we'll see in the next round show the swing states tied. then democrats really will be appropriate for them to panic a little bit. right now trepidation is the most appropriate emotion for democrats. if you see e obama's lead in the swing states evaporating as well, then it really is, i think, a toss up heading into the last debates. >> nate silver, author of the new book "the signal and the noise." more broadly it's about the whole statistical universe and how to understand it. nate, congratulations. thanks for your time tonight. >> thank you. >>> pop quiz. paul ryan has either, a, just helped president obama with the nra, or b

obama up by 12 in wisconsin, obama up by 6 in colorado, obama up by 7 in nevada, obama up by 4 in iowa. that's what the campaign is looking like today. polls out today in the states where the campaign most matters at this point. these are the freshest polls. now here is the opposite of the swing states. these are the states where polling is still being done. in some cases, recently. even though the margins are hilarious. like oklahoma where as of last month, mitt romney was up by 29 points. or texas where he was up by 15 points a couple weeks ago or georgia where he was up by 2 it 12 points last week. or utah where polling done over the summer found, surprise, mitt romney ahead by 42 points. the same is true on the other side as well. in california, president obama is leading by 24. he's up by 17 in washington state, he's up in new york by 28 points. the president is also winning mitt romney's home state of massachusetts by 28 points. so these states are obviously something of an after thought for the presidential race. you can raise money there, but campaigning there, it turns out the
